Our Story

"Dreams don't work unless you do."

The Painted Pony Design Co. is a dream that began my junior year of college. Before I get too far into how the dream has developed into a reality, let me give a quick introduction into the face behind the brand.

My name is Shannen McCroskey and I grew up on the back of a trail horse in Southeastern Oklahoma. While most young girls knew every Disney movie by heart and dreamed of being a Princess, I never stopped watching 'Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken' and wanted to train wild mustangs...

Every aspect of the Old West fascinated me. To this day, Cowboy Culture, is as close to my heart as it's ever been. Maybe that's why I couldn't resist the call to attend Oklahoma State University.

My time as a Cowgirl brought some of the most precious friendships and memories into my life.

God opened so many doors for me during that time. One of the most influential & inspirational people I have ever met hired me to work in her small business, Rhinestone Cowgirl. What began as a part-time job that I desperately needed to pay rent, rapidly turned into a passion that I never saw coming. Miranda Dickinson has done more for me than I can put into words; she taught me 'Real Life: Business 101,' how to market and sell products, customer service, managing and running a business, how to open a new business and most importantly how to treat people. Miranda is family to me. She has encouraged and believed in me from Day 1, she is the sole person who inspired The Painted Pony and who helped me believe that it didn't have to remain a dream, that I was capable of making it a reality.

Fast forward a few years — in May 2016, with a lot of stress, hard-work and encouragement — I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Communications.

I'm an outdoor & shenanigan enthusiast — I love classic country music, rodeos, kayaking, concerts, shopping and talking to people. My designs are a little part of me and I am so grateful and excited to share them with you all!

Starting this business has been a whirlwind — I am gratefully overwhelmed by the love and support I have received since launching this brand. My hope is to see The Painted Pony be recognized as a quality t-shirt brand with comfortable, unique designs that everyone, no matter their age or size, wants to wear.

From the bottom of my heart — THANK YOU. I can't wait to see where this journey leads!
